"Trees" - Original Art Box - diorama - shadow box - gratitude art

When I first began my gratitude project, one of the first works I created was a tribute to trees—not only as a material, as seen in the living-room furniture in the lower part of the painting, but, of course, above all, for their own sake. For all that they give us, simply by being here.

For the forest walk that slowly heals your wounds.

For the treetop outside your window that keeps you grounded when you get caught up in the worries of everyday life.

For the sense of safety a tree can offer when you wrap your arms around it on a hectic day.

For treehouses, for shade on a hot day, for the fruit and nuts they sometimes give us. For firewood. For giving birds a home.

Trees possess a kind of non-human wisdom that fascinates me. They were here long before us, and they will remain long after we are gone. There is comfort in that continuity, in both my existential questions and my everyday concerns.

This is why I created this work.
